Reviewing 2024 and looking forward to 2025
Apparently, I’ve written 28.4K words for this newsletter in 2024 - that’s about half of a short novel. Add to that the 14 podcast episodes Patrick and I have hosted and produced, plus the 117 articles I wrote for Ny Teknik this year. Let’s just say I’m ready to take a short break.
Yes, it’s “wrapped” season - the tradition Spotify started has now spread everywhere, including Beehiiv* (look for that asterisk way down below), the platform that powers this newsletter.
Here are some stats I’m especially proud of:
The open rate is outstanding, as is the clickthrough rate (CTR). These numbers tell me I’m on the right track. Writing this newsletter is a commitment, both for me and for you, my readers, and it’s rewarding to see that it resonates.
Why only 31 posts if the newsletter is weekly? Well, for the first five months, I was figuring out how to fit this thing into my life. Eventually, I just decided to make it work - schedule be damned!
Another thing that surprised me was this:
I guess no one is a prophet in their own land.
Jokes aside, I’m deeply grateful to all of you who’ve joined me on this journey.
Speaking of that, here’s a sneak peak of what’s in store for LEVITY in 2025.
The main newsletter will continue as usual - free to everyone. For those who’ve chosen to go Premium (🙏🏼), your subscription will remain ad-free. Premium members also get access to the full archive.
I’m considering two new types of LEVITY newsletters:
A free, quick-read version that you can digest in a minute or two, possibly weekly.
A Premium version featuring exclusive content, likely sent out monthly.
Patrick and I will continue the LEVITY podcast, with some of the biggest names in longevity already lined up for early next year. I couldn’t be more excited about the guests we’ll feature.
While the podcast content will be consistent across platforms, we plan to make an extra effort on YouTube, creating exclusive video content in addition to the podcast.
But first, LEVITY will be taking a short break over the holidays, with both the newsletter and podcast returning in January.
Thank you for being part of LEVITY - it’s been an incredible year, and I can’t wait to see where this takes us in 2025! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
* I’m a big fan of Beehiiv. Running a newsletter involves a lot of moving parts behind the scenes, but Beehiiv strikes a great balance between user-friendliness and offering powerful features. Plus, their support team is quick to respond whenever an issue pops up. If you’ve ever thought about starting your own newsletter (you should - it’s a lot of fun!), Beehiiv is an excellent option. And here’s an added bonus: through the link below, you can get a 30-day trial and 20% off for your first three months. Give it a try!

Streaming platforms pay billions in royalties.
JKBX (pronounced “Jukebox”) opens the door to invest in royalty shares of iconic songs, earning quarterly distributions tied to their performance.
This isn’t about fanfare—it’s about diversification. Music royalties offer a potential income stream tied to one thing people never stop doing: pressing play.

Live long and PROSPR
Incredibly exciting to see this project from ARPA-H.
What if we could predict age-induced health issues before they happen? Our new PROSPR program aims to identify biochemical and physiological markers, paving the way for faster, more targeted aging research. arpa-h.gov/news-and-event…

”Next-gen induced proximity medicines”
Armand Cognetta, the CEO and founder of General Proximity writes: ”Want new mitochondria? A drug that mimics fasting or exercise? To regenerate a damaged organ? To repair broken DNA? To create new stem cells? To activate your body's natural anti-tumor defenses?”
Yes, please.
I will certainly follow this startup - that just recently came out of stealth - very closely.
General Proximity (@proxbio) is coming out of stealth.
General Proximity is developing a new class of medicines that we believe has the potential to decrease global disease burden, transform human health, and extend lifespan more than any other current therapeutic modality. 🧵

Worth your time.
Facing death, choosing life
A common misconception about unlimited lifespan is that people assume it would strip them of the right to die. This is completely untrue. I believe firmly in both the right to live and the right to die.
In fact, having the choice to end one’s life can sometimes be what helps someone recognize the value of staying alive. This was powerfully illustrated in the story of a young Dutch woman, shared in a harrowing yet beautiful feature in The Guardian.
What I’ve been up to lately.
Had the pleasure to talk to @geoffreyhinton today. Brilliant man.

Meeting Nobel laureates
During Nobel Week I interviewed AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton (one of the winners in this year’s physics category) and Google Deepmind’s John Jumper, who got one of the chemistry prices for his work on Alphafold.
My interview with Hinton has been published here (in Swedish).
